ISRRT 2014 Congress – Site Visit

This was a site visit in preparation for the June 2014 ISRRT Congress.

 

CEO Dr. Alexander Yule, and Treasurer, Stewart Whitley joined me as we toured prospective hotels, the Congress Centre and some of the beautiful venues available to our members. FinlandWe also met with representatives of the Finland Society of Radiographers and the Helsinki Tourist Board. There are only 6 hours of daylight at this time of year but we will have 20 hours of daylight in 2014.

September 30 – October 3, 2011 Denmark    

Danish Congress of Radiological Technologists

Denmark Society President, Charlotte Graungaard Beck, invited Dr. Ward to attend the 2011 Congress held in Aarhus, Denmark. He presented “What importance do the Danish radiographers have for the rest of the world?” It is their hope to have greater involvement with with the international work of the ISRRT and to better understand how they can participate in international activities within our profession.

He was able to tour the Shimadzu Foundation Memorial Hall, Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Temple) and Shimadzu Headquarters in Kyoto where an outstanding demonstration of some of the latest Shimadzu developments in imaging technology were viewable.

Singapore Society of Radiological Technologist 26th Conference

Dr. Ward was honored to participate in the ribbon cutting at the opening ceremony and gave the keynote address entitled “Professional Development for the New Decade: Who Moves the Cheese?”  His presentation focused on the unique roles of radiographers and radiological technologists who must be unbounded and innovative as they perform their duties.

He encouraged all of his colleagues to become leaders in all aspects of their professional lives and to assume greater responsibilities in their professional development.

Dr. Ward also served as a judge for the paper presentations and for the scientific poster presentation. 

He received a special gift (a caricature of himself!) from Singapore Society President Tan Chek Wee.

International Commission of Radiology (ICR)

Dr. Ward and ISRRT CEO, Dr. Sandy Yule attended the ISR meeting in Athens, Greece.  This meeting is the radiologist version of the international society of radiographers and radiological technologists.  We are very interested in finding ways for our two international organizations to work together on projects and initiatives that improve radiology services around the world.  This was the meeting of their Executive Board and their strategic planning meeting.  We were invited to participate and to provide information that helps to meet our respective goals.

United Kingdom Radiology Conference (UKRc)

Dr. Ward, ISRRT CEO, Dr. Sandy Yule and ISRRT Treasurer, Stewart Whitley (from London, England) attended the annual meeting of the United Kingdom Society of Radiographers.  This meeting was held in Manchester, England.  The city was beautiful; unfortunately it was a bit cool and quite rainy.  I know what to take with me next year!!!

Dr.Yule (ISRRT CEO), Dr. Ward, Dr. Madan Rehani and Mr. Stewart Whitley (ISRRT Treasurerat the IRQN. ISRRT is a founding member of this organization and remains a key player in all its activities.  We also met at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with Dr. Madan Rehani who is a great friend to radiographers and radiological technologists and has been a keynote speaker for several national and international conferences associated with the ISRRT and member societies.

ISRRT Board Meeting

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) selected me to become a Life Member of the ASRT. In ASRT’s 91-year history, only 21 of its members have received this most prestigious honor. The ceremony took place during Honors Evening at the ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates meeting on Saturday, June 18, 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. ASRT is the largest radiologic science professional association in the world and currently has membership over 137,000.

18th Asia – Australasia Conferences of Radiological Technologists
ISRRT Asia-Australasia Regional Meeting

The Taiwan Society of Radiological Technologists President, Dr. Stenver Lin and his members, were gracious hosts.  The conference registration was in access of 2500 and provided attendees with outstanding scientific presentations and scientific posters that covered topics across all aspects of the radiologic and imaging sciences. I presented greetings on behalf of the ISRRT at the opening session and shared concern and prayers for our colleagues and the people of Japan who suffered after the earthquake and radiation disaster.

European Congress of Radiology (ERC)

The ISRRT became a founding member of the International Historical Society (ISHRASD).  This new society was established to record the history of all matters related to Radiology and Radiography and will be based in the Roentgen Museum in Remscheid, Germany.   Dr. Yule, ISRRT CEO, Dimitris Katsifarakis (ISRRT Regional Director for Europe), Philippe Gerson (ISRRT Vice President for Europe/Africa) and I met with leaders of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and the European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS).

Associated Sciences Planning Meeting

Dr. Ward attended the planning meeting of the RSNA’s Associated Sciences on behalf of the ISRRT.  ISRRT is a member of the review board of the Associated Sciences.

Radiologic Society of North America (RSNA)

Dr. Ward, ISRRT CEO, Dr. Sandy Yule, Treasure, Stewart Whitley, Dr. Maria Law (ISRRT,Vice President for the Asia/Australasia Region) and Cynthia Cowling (ISRRT, Director of Education) represented the ISRRT at the RSNA.  This is a very busy time for all attending as it provides an opportunity to meet with many other international leaders and colleagues from the United States and across the world.

ISRRT World Congress

At the 16th World Congress of the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT) in September 2010, Michael D. Ward, PHd, RT(R ) FASRT was elected president. His term of office is four (4) years and he has graciously agreed to keep his colleagues in the Missouri Society up-to-date with his duties as President.
